Sources have told ESPN's Doug Gottlieb that Tubby Smith will leave Minnesota after this season.

There's some speculation over whether Georgia Tech will buy out the remainder of Paul Hewitt's contract and land Smith.

The Gophers are 17-11 overall and 6-10 in the Big Ten.

No. 5 Duke thumped Georgia Tech 79-57 on Sunday night after a slow start.

The win could propel the Blue Devils to No. 1 after all four teams ahead of them in the rankings -- Kansas, Ohio State, Texas and Pitt -- lost in the past week.

"Being No. 1 right now doesn't matter at all," guard Nolan Smith said. "Last year's team, we weren't No. 1 until the end. If we get it, it's cool, but if not, we're not worried about it."

Georgia Tech forward Brian Oliver will have surgery for a broken left thumb and is expected to miss three weeks.

Oliver, a sophomore and the team's third-leading scorer, suffered a small fracture at the base of the thumb in Saturday's loss to Clemson.
